Oneatha Bethel Lead District Counselor
School Counseling Midfield City Schools Counseling Department serves over 900 hundred students in Pre-K through Twelfth Grade. School counselors work to implement the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) model when developing a holistic approach with students. Counselors in Midfield City Schools hold memberships to local, state, and national associations and attend professional development in related fields regularly. The school counseling curriculum for Midfield City Schools follows the components written by the Alabama Comprehensive School Guidance Plan, which includes the three domains of academic, career, and social/emotional development. These activities are intended to enhance the instructional program/curriculum and focus on increasing student achievement in all students. The counselors work in agreement with school administration to follow ethical standards defined by ASCA. Midfield City Schools Counseling Department provides monthly lessons, individual planning, responsive services, and system support.

VISION
The vision of the school counseling program in Midfield City Schools is that all students are critical thinkers and self-motivated leaders who successfully demonstrate responsibility, and social maturity. They are positive and respectful lifelong learners and productive citizens who demonstrate self-control with adults and their peers. They persevere and overcome barriers to excel in a global, innovative and diverse society.
MISSION
The mission of the school counseling program in Midfield City Schools is to educate all students in a safe and supportive environment. We deliver developmentally appropriate activities that include education, prevention and intervention activities. The school counseling program provides equal access to equitable counseling services to help all students succeed. The school counseling program promotes academic achievement, college-and-career exploration, and social/emotional growth. The school counselors work collaboratively with others to help students persevere and overcome barriers, achieve social maturity, demonstrate self-control, and have positive relationships with adults and peers. The school counselor follows a professional code of ethics and provides leadership and advocacy that supports all students to become critical thinkers, self-motivated leaders and responsible, life-long learners who excel in a global, innovative and diverse society.
GOALS
In striving to maintain accountability, Midfield City Schools Counseling program sets at least 1 goal at each school that is specific to meeting the needs of the students each school year. As aligned with the ASCANational Model: A Framework for School Counseling Programs and the Alabama Counseling and Guidance Model for Public School, the model provides all essential elements for developing programs to help our students achieve success in school. The school counselor completes a school data profile each year to gather and access the school’s students’ attendance, behavior and achievement. The school counselor meets with the Principal annually to choose the area of focus for the school year.
Rutledge Middle School earned the Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) designation. The RAMP designation recognizes schools committed to delivering a data-informed school counseling program in accordance with The ASCA National Model: A Framework for School Counseling Programs.
School counselors at RAMP schools have successfully documented how their work has impacted student achievement, attendance and discipline at their school.
