Midfield City School System Federal Programs
The Midfield City School System participates in several federal programs that provide additional funding, professional development, and instructional initiatives to enhance student learning. These programs are designed to support schools in meeting the diverse needs of students, improving educational outcomes, and fostering a well-rounded learning environment. Three primary programs supporting our schools are Title I, II, and IV.
Title I: Improving Academic Achievement
Purpose: Title I is a federally funded program designed to ensure that all children, regardless of socioeconomic status, have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education. The primary goal is to provide additional instructional support to students who are at risk of falling behind in their academic achievement. This funding helps bridge the gap between disadvantaged students and their peers by offering additional resources, instructional programs, and support services.
Title I, Part A
Title I, Part A provides supplemental funding to school districts based on the percentage of students from low-income families. These funds support initiatives that enhance student achievement through evidence-based instructional strategies, targeted interventions, and additional instructional staff. Title I funding must supplement, not replace, existing local and state educational funding.
School-wide Title I Programs
A school-wide Title I program is a comprehensive reform initiative aimed at improving the overall educational experience in eligible schools. By leveraging Title I funds, schools can implement programs that benefit all students while placing a strong focus on those who need the most academic support. Schools implementing a school-wide Title I program must:
-
Conduct a comprehensive needs assessment to identify specific academic challenges and areas for growth.
-
Develop data-driven goals and evidence-based strategies that align with student needs and state academic standards.
-
Create and execute a comprehensive school improvement plan that addresses instructional gaps and enhances student learning opportunities.
-
Perform an annual program evaluation and revision to ensure ongoing improvement and effectiveness.

Title IV: Student Support and Academic Enrichment (SSAE) Grants
Purpose: Title IV provides critical funding to support the development of safe, healthy, and well-rounded students by expanding access to a diverse range of educational programs. This funding is allocated to ensure that students have opportunities to engage in enrichment activities, develop critical thinking skills, and experience a safe and supportive learning environment.
Key Focus Areas of Title IV:
-
Well-Rounded Education: Expands student access to courses and programs in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), the arts, music, civics, and career and technical education (CTE). Schools can use these funds to enhance curriculum offerings and provide students with a more engaging and relevant educational experience.
-
Safe and Healthy Students: Supports initiatives that promote mental health awareness, social-emotional learning, bullying prevention, and school safety. Schools may use these funds to implement programs focused on student wellness, counseling services, and violence prevention strategies.
-
Effective Use of Technology: Provides resources for integrating technology into classrooms, including digital learning tools, instructional software, and teacher training on using technology effectively. This funding helps bridge the digital divide and ensures equitable access to modern educational tools.
